Topic: looking for a movie

I saw a movie as a kid some time around 1997 and I would like to see it again but I don't know the title.  Here is the best information I can give: The movie is based around an author who writes a book and when someone reads the book their eyes bleed (they may end up going crazy, but I don't remember for sure).  The book becomes a huge success and spreads around the world, the movie ends with something to the effect of... it doesn't matter if they haven't read the book, it's coming out as a movie.  Any help on finding this movie's title would be appreciated.

the movie is called "mouth of madness" you can read more info on the movie at netflix.com. But mouth of madness is the movie you are looking for my friend.

john carpenters In the Mouth of Madness. great flick, wish there were more trippy supernaturlal movies like this.  you can watch it online here
