Newly Published Horror Author -- I need your help.

Hi there everyone. I promise, this is not spam. I came to Random Sanity because it hit first on the google search engine, true enough, but I would like to work with the site. Could we link each others sites? I am a newly published author who is getting a lot of work published in the short story market. I really need the help from true horror fans like your forums. You can't make it in the world unless you have a platform. My platform is that horror is not dying, its killing.

Now to my point:

My name is Draven Ames and I am getting published next month in SNM horror magazine. I have two other stories being released in various horror magazines. I just finished my first novel, which is in line editing right now, and started a blog with information about where I get published, who I contacted, and the journey to Barnes and Nobles. I know this may be asking a lot, but I need to gain a following to get a literary agents attention.

I promise you, my novel is very good. I am starting this blog to showcase a story per week, horror news, movies, books and the route to publishing. I know I have to get over a thousand followers, but I think I can do it with good stories.

So if your on your break at work, or in the bathroom on the can--maybe your at a wedding or listening to your husband yammer on about the Lakers--then take my blog with you and read a new short story. I have a whole lot of things coming! Please, give me your faith and help me make it. Every follower counts and I will be making this site good.

Please, share with your friends. Very few people in the literary world believe in horror anymore--that it is a viable and marketable genre. I would like to change some of those opinions.

Give me a shot?

The Ghost Toucher

“Haven’t you ever picked up your keys for no reason and realized you had nowhere to go?” Israel asked. “Or picked up a pen and didn’t have anything to write?”

“No,” Kelly said.

“Sure you have. Everybody has. It’s like having déjà vu about déjà vu.”

“What?”

“You know—you remember remembering you’ve done a thing before, but you only remember remembering it when you’re remembering it?”

“So when I’m not remembering it, I forget it?”

“You got it.”

“No. No, I don’t.”

In a world where ghosts are an accepted reality, Stout Roost, reality star and host of the Network’s The Ghost Toucher series has vanished. But Israel, the spiritual detective they hire, doesn’t exactly have a plan to find him. Kelly Greene, a customer service rep, is tapped to assist the detective, but he quickly realizes that as far as unconventional methods go, Israel’s are insane. He informs Kelly there is an afterworld and the people there hate ghosts. They also hate the living because they eventually become ghosts and are seeking a ‘clean’ way to exterminate us all. The two learn finding Stout is the least of their worries as they are pursued through metro-Detroit by obsessive compulsive wannabe warriors, mutants who worship an insane deity, weapons from the other side and a mysterious, perpetually pregnant, augmentative woman with a gender complex.

Kelly figures there is much more to Israel than he has let on and after a strange incident learns the detective ties into his own past, including a tragedy that has changed Kelly’s life for the worse. As their pursuers close in in their own wacky, respective ways Kelly and Israel find themselves on the other side where the truth is finally revealed. But can they get back before the wheels threatening the existence of the universe are set in motion? And will they ever get around to finding Stout Roost?

A new novel being published by Severed Press later this year. You can check out my website for updates, excerpts and other goodies at www.feelmyghost.webs.com.

Horror Authors and Readers! A new review site!

It is my intention to find new authors in the genres of horror, science fiction and fantasy and review their work here on my blog, for free.
I don't promise a good review, only an honest one.
If my reviews are positive, I'll even go as far as to publish the review on Amazon for the author.

The website address is:
http://thewrittenuniverse.blogspot.com

The face of publishing has changed drastically over the years.
We've seen books on tape turn into books on CD. We're now seeing books go from print to digital.
Getting a book published has changed, too. An author can write a novel and go the route of getting an agent (or not) to get their work to a publisher, but they can also use a vanity press or go through smaller publishing houses who are more apt to publish an unknown.

Make no mistake, it may be easy to get published, but once that's happened, how does an author generate sales, even if it's on line somewhere to order?
Social websites such as MySpace and Facebook are essential tools for an author to create a fan base, but getting their work reviewed is another matter.

What qualifies me to review books and who cares what I think anyway?

I worked in bookstores for 10 years and in that time, I came to know what it is readers are looking for.
They want characters they can identify with on some level and see them through to the end of the story.
A good ending is hoped for, but not always expected. They want something to capture their interest and imagination.
And oddly enough, they do like originality.

I've been reading since before I went to Kindergarten. My mother would read me comic books I dutifully picked out (I was and still am to a degree a DC girl).
I always have a book going and the sole criteria for me to buy a purse is if it will at least hold a mass market paperback.
I look at it this way, if Harry Knowles can put up his web site Ain't It Cool and prosper, get the ear of Hollywood and become friends with Quentin Tarantino, then my love of books alone qualifies me.

If you are an author and wish to submit your work for review, it must be in either the horror, science fiction or fantasy genres.
Why these you may wonder?
These genres are the hardest to break into. To me, they have always seemed to be the step-children of the writing world and not given serious attention, other than that from fans like myself.
They are also my preferred reading.

For readers of these genres, I want to provide them with new books and authors to explore. There's a lot out there, and I want to help readers weed through to the good stuff.

You may contact me by mail to:
gothgirlwroses@hotmail.com

I look forward to seeing where this goes.
