Call for entries! - Get your submission in before June 5th 2010 to avoid late fees. Final deadline is July 3rd 2010.

The 1st Oklahoma Horror Film Festival will be held at Tulsa's SpiritBank Event Center, located off Memorial between 101st and 111th, over Labor Day Weekend (Sept. 3rd-5th 2010). In addition to terrifying films, the festival will feature special guests from the horror/film industry as well as educational and useful workshops for current and future filmmakers.

If you're from Oklahoma or will be in the area around this time, I hope to see you there. There well be free parking and covered parking available. Within walking distance is a nice Hampton Inn and a myriad of restaurants and stores.

The festival is competitive screening approximately 50-60 films a year. All winning entries will be reviewed for consideration for production and/or distribution. In addition, we’ll announce to thousands of industry professionals that you were a winner of our festival, not to mention a great array of cash and other prizes.

Guests of our festival can expect high quality screenings of feature length films, trailers, and shorts. They can enjoy films in beautiful ballrooms lit between showings by hanging chandeliers. The seating in each theater is comfortable and the sound will come evenly from above (No worrying about being sat next to a large speaker). If attending our workshops, they can expect quality guests and topics in an intimate setting and we'll have tables and chairs set up to facilitate note taking and laptops. It is with all of this in mind that we are delighted to be able to hold our festival here and consider the SpiritBank Event Center one of Tulsa's finest locations for a festival.
Hello, im new to the board and was very glad to find it. Spent the better part of an hour just reading other post LOL.
Anyway, Im trying to find this movie. I do not know the name, I will give as much FYI as possible.
These yound adults go into some old building, I believe it was an old asylum or hospital. Or maybe it was an old lab?
Anyway, strange things go bump, and so on. Then they find this very whitiish kid hocked up to some chair and wires coming out of him everywhere in this room they locate in another part of the building.
Its up high off a cat walk like thing with steps going up to his enclosed glass locked room they unlock.
Turns out the kids been there some time alone. hes some sort of killer they were experimenting on. He has some kind of telepathic powers. They also locate a janator in a lower room that doesnt go very well either. The only servivor at the end is this one girl i believe.
The killer kid is bald, tall & very pale looking.
If anyone thinks they know the name of this movie so i could look it up to buy for my movie collection that would be great.
Thanks Much Gizzy

Devil's Crossing

Devil's Crossing
Hey Guys just wanted to let you know about an up and coming zombie western movie that looks pretty cool.
Devil's Crossing will eat you alive. Blood, guts, explosions and that's before the zombies even arrive. What happens when the devil raises hell in a town already soaked to the brim in evil? Try fighting flesh-eating zombies with a puny six-shooter, damn near impossible. It takes shotguns and black powder when your start crossing the devil.

Devil's Crossing is an independently funded horror film shooting just outside of Charlotte, NC. Written & directed by James Ryan Gary and produced by Paul Streiner, Devil's Crossing features an explosion of gore as the western and zombie genres collide. Devil's Crossing is an adult film, so be warned; scenes include:

Sudden decapitations
Innocents dying cruel deaths
Zombies being cut in half
Zombies being shot to pieces
Zombies being shot then exploding
Numerous scenes of unwarranted bloodshed
And more that we're not allowed to put in writing
Distributors said the script was "too violent" and "some characters are sickingly aggressive". We're gluttons for punishment... so we're making the film anyway. Devil's Crossing is our twisted vision of the wild west when the dead rise up to consume the last remnants of humanity, and we're making the film no matter what... even if it consumes us in the process.

Devil's Crossing

After the world has been destroyed and ravaged by nuclear war, the remaining human life is fighting for survival. The world is shattered and life as we know it has gone to complete hell. Shadrach a man, who has sold his soul to the devil, must kill to keep his life. As he drifts from town to town his only job is to collect the bodies the devil sees fit to be dragged directly to hell. On one certain dark night Shadrach decides to give up his vicious job and return to a normal life of simplicity. The devil, in the form of a man, comes after Shadrach to confront him about his decision. After an intense and grueling argument the devil leaves Shadrach and the townspeople to fight for themselves as he summons a massive group of zombies. The zombies ravage the town killing townspeople in route to an epic showdown with Shadrach.

The director, James Ryan Gary, delivers his intensity and passion for zombies through this one of a kind zombie masterpiece. Working alongside producer Paul Streiner, the two have collaborated to put together something truly amazing. Streiner directed "Zombie Kings" which won best short at Indie Fest USA 2009 and has worked on various other film projects. The cast for Devil's Crossing features some incredible talent, primarily from the state of North Carolina. Louise, played by Patrick Keenan is featured in movies such as "The Blindside" and "The Patriot".

The filming of Devil's Crossing took place in Love Valley, NC. Located just north of Statesville, Love Valley is a cowboy town that truly has a western style. Independently funded and filmed entirely in North Carolina, Devil's crossing hopes to make a statement about the North Carolina Film community and the talent it possesses.

Horror Authors and Readers! A new review site!

It is my intention to find new authors in the genres of horror, science fiction and fantasy and review their work here on my blog, for free.
I don't promise a good review, only an honest one.
If my reviews are positive, I'll even go as far as to publish the review on Amazon for the author.

The website address is:
http://thewrittenuniverse.blogspot.com

The face of publishing has changed drastically over the years.
We've seen books on tape turn into books on CD. We're now seeing books go from print to digital.
Getting a book published has changed, too. An author can write a novel and go the route of getting an agent (or not) to get their work to a publisher, but they can also use a vanity press or go through smaller publishing houses who are more apt to publish an unknown.

Make no mistake, it may be easy to get published, but once that's happened, how does an author generate sales, even if it's on line somewhere to order?
Social websites such as MySpace and Facebook are essential tools for an author to create a fan base, but getting their work reviewed is another matter.

What qualifies me to review books and who cares what I think anyway?

I worked in bookstores for 10 years and in that time, I came to know what it is readers are looking for.
They want characters they can identify with on some level and see them through to the end of the story.
A good ending is hoped for, but not always expected. They want something to capture their interest and imagination.
And oddly enough, they do like originality.

I've been reading since before I went to Kindergarten. My mother would read me comic books I dutifully picked out (I was and still am to a degree a DC girl).
I always have a book going and the sole criteria for me to buy a purse is if it will at least hold a mass market paperback.
I look at it this way, if Harry Knowles can put up his web site Ain't It Cool and prosper, get the ear of Hollywood and become friends with Quentin Tarantino, then my love of books alone qualifies me.

If you are an author and wish to submit your work for review, it must be in either the horror, science fiction or fantasy genres.
Why these you may wonder?
These genres are the hardest to break into. To me, they have always seemed to be the step-children of the writing world and not given serious attention, other than that from fans like myself.
They are also my preferred reading.

For readers of these genres, I want to provide them with new books and authors to explore. There's a lot out there, and I want to help readers weed through to the good stuff.

You may contact me by mail to:
gothgirlwroses@hotmail.com

I look forward to seeing where this goes.
